Our New Family Tree

As part of bringing our family history and my genealogy hobby into our wedding, I wanted to creatively showcase our two families coming together and joining in our marriage. I fell in love with the idea of a thumbprint tree guestbook! It fits in perfectly with the family history trees we displayed at the reception.

To design my own Wedding Tree, I started with this tree image, took out all the leaves, and moved the branches around.

I wanted our Wedding Tree to be specifically about our relatives, not all our wedding guests. I labeled all the branches with our extended family, and had people "thumb" it by their name at our rehearsal dinner. Then we could just display it with our family tree boards at the reception.

The stamp pads I used were $1 pads from Michaels. I read somewhere that the cheapest ink pads are the easiest to get off your fingers. Some baby wipes or alcohol pads still would have been really useful, since everyone walked around with green-ish thumbs at our rehearsal dinner! I also should have brought the stamp pads to the wedding reception, as some of our family members weren't able to come to the rehearsal dinner and missed out on "thumbing" the board.
